Congrats BAMBA!
Two projects intended to encourage young professionals to become involved with their community have been awarded grants totaling $11,500 from the Greater Reading Young Professionals Community Engagement Fund of Berks County Community Foundation.
One project will replace existing bridges on Neversink Mountain trails with wider bridges to allow handcycle access. The other project is a mobile app to encourage users to share photos and videos of experiences around Berks County.
“Every year, we support initiatives that engage young professionals to live, work, and play in Berks County,” said Thad Gelsinger, president of the Greater Reading Young Professionals (GRYP) and an attorney at Leisawitz Heller. “The projects that we funded this year do appeal to young professionals, but they also improve the recreational experience for anyone in Berks County who want to use these bridges or this mobile app.”
The grants:
$6,700 to Berks Area Mountain Biking Association for the Klapperthal Bridge Improvement Project on Neversink South Trail, which is a top-quality trail with amazing vistas and the potential to attract riders from outside Greater Reading.
$4,800 to bctv.org to support the So*Lo Mobile App. Information on how to get the free app is available at bctv.org.
Kevin K. Murphy, president of Berks County Community Foundation, congratulated GRYP for annually raising money and awarding grants that both address community needs and contribute to a welcoming atmosphere for young professionals.
“This organization’s commitment shows the compassion that our young leaders have for strengthening our community,” Murphy said.
The GRYP Fund was established to support the organization’s mission to attract, retain, and engage young professionals in the area. The money is raised through GRYP's annual gala, G!G!.
